Chemical Processing Vessels Steel Plates – For Corrosion, Pressure & Heat Resistance

Hindustan Steel Corporation supplies corrosion-resistant boiler and pressure vessel quality steel plates specifically designed for chemical processing vessels. Whether it’s acid processing, alkali reactors, or high-temperature chemical tanks – our steel plates are engineered for strength, safety, and extended life in hostile environments.

What Are Chemical Processing Vessels Used For in Industry?

Chemical processing vessels – including reactors, distillation columns, and chemical storage tanks – are critical to industries like:

  • Petrochemical & Fertilizer Plants
  • Dyes, Paints & Coating Facilities
  • Pharmaceutical & API Manufacturing
  • Chlor-Alkali Plants
  • Acids, Solvents, and Polymer Production

These vessels often operate under high pressure, high temperature, and corrosive conditions – demanding robust plate quality.

Application-Based Use Cases of Pressure Vessel Plates

We supply steel plates ideal for:

  • Sulfuric Acid & Nitric Acid Storage Vessels
  • Alkali & Chlorine Reactors
  • Organic Solvent Vessels (e.g. Acetone, Benzene)
  • Urea Reactors and Ammonia Storage Tanks
  • Heat-Exchange Columns in Chemical Plants

All plates meet or exceed NACE, ASME, ASTM, and EN standards for durability and safety.

Mechanical Properties Demanded in Chemical Vessel Steel

Chemical vessels require plates with:

  • Yield Strength: 240 – 460 MPa
  • Tensile Strength: 400 – 750 MPa
  • Elongation: Minimum 18–22%
  • Impact Toughness: Especially at sub-zero for ammonia/urea
  • Corrosion Resistance: Acid/alkali resistance & HIC compliance

We provide material with tested impact resistance and guaranteed weldability.

Which Steel Grades Are Suitable for Chemical Vessels?

At Hindustan Steel, we offer:

  • ASTM A516 Grade 70 / 60 – For general chemical storage
  • ASTM A387 Gr 11/22 (Chrome Moly) – For elevated temperature reactors
  • EN 10028 P265GH / P355NH – For European chemical equipment
  • DIN 17155 HII / 17Mn4 – Trusted in older plant infrastructure
  • HIC Tested Steel Plates – For wet H2S, acid service & NACE compliance

Dual-certified and IBR-approved variants are also available.

Standard Sizes, Thickness Range & Supply Scope

We stock and cut to size:

  1. Thickness Range: 6 mm to 150 mm
  2. Widths: Up to 3000mm
  3. Lengths: 6000mm to 12000mm
  4. Cut Shapes: Rectangular, Ring, Dome-cap, Dished heads, Flanged plates
  5. Custom machining & beveling on request

We also offer cut-to-shape nested profiles as per fabrication drawings.

Heat Treatment & Metallurgical Quality

Most grades are supplied in normalized, quenched & tempered, or stress-relieved condition depending on:

  • Required working temperature
  • Pressure load
  • Corrosion factor (acidic or alkaline environment)

We also offer PWHT-ready (post-weld heat treatable) plates with certified microstructure.

Fabrication, Welding & Formability Details

  • Excellent weldability – Suitable for SAW, SMAW, TIG, MIG welding
  • Compatible with cold and hot forming
  • Bevelled edges for faster installation
  • Available with ultrasonic, radiographic, PMI and IGC test reports

We work closely with chemical OEM fabricators to reduce fabrication cycle time.

  • EN 10204 3.1 / 3.2 MTC
  • Ultrasonic Tested (UT)
  • HIC / SSC / NACE TM0284 Test Report
  • PWHT compatibility confirmation
  • IBR & PED certifications (as required)

Third-party inspection from Lloyds, BV, TUV, SGS available on request.

FAQs for Chemical Processing Vessels Steel Plates

HIC (Hydrogen Induced Cracking) tested plates are mandatory for vessels exposed to wet hydrogen sulfide, ensuring resistance to internal cracking.

With HIC testing and proper heat treatment, SA516 Gr 70 is suitable for moderate acid service. For highly aggressive media, chrome moly or alloy grades are preferred.

Thickness varies from 10mm to 100mm+ depending on vessel diameter, pressure, and corrosion allowance.

Yes, we offer CNC cut, bevelled, and even dished ends or formed components per drawing.
