Abrex 550 Plates are ultra-hard wear resistant steel plates with a surface hardness of ~550 BHN, ideal for the most punishing abrasive environments. Manufactured by Nippon Steel, Abrex 550 offers exceptional performance in applications where even AR500-grade plates are not enough.

Abrex 550 is a high-hardness, quenched and tempered (Q&T) steel plate designed for heavy-duty wear applications. With its 550 BHN hardness, this plate delivers longer service life, reduced maintenance, and superior resistance to gouging, sliding, and impact wear in harsh industrial and mining conditions.
Though harder than Abrex 500, it still maintains adequate toughness and machinability when handled with proper preheating and low-hydrogen welding protocols.
Abrex 550 is selected when equipment faces constant high-velocity abrasion or must sustain frequent loading and unloading of sharp materials like gravel, coal, slag, or iron ore.
Supplied in custom sizes, fully ready for fabrication or assembly.
